We regularly have on-base safety drills to train in case of fire.
We are divided into firefighters / caregivers. Each week, there are several people on-call; fire fighter group "attack" (fully equipped to get to the scene of the accident),
the "support" group responsible for installing the hoses,
and the medical team, alongside Camille the doctor, ready to take care of a possible victim.
Once the victim has been evacuated from the scene of the fire, the medical team performs emergency care and carries the victim to the hospital on the stretcher. Then, once at the hospital, there is a training session on putting in a drip, plasters, stitches, and more, depending on the nature of the accident and injuries. We also have regular medical training, such as preparing the operating room. We are organized into a team of anesthetist's help (setting up devices, dilution of drugs, monitoring of constants), surgical assistants (dressed in sterile coveralls, ready to assist Camille during the operation) and technical aids (in charge of sterilizing the equipment in advance and responsible for the machines used).
I have also had the opportunity to hike outside the base, for example by touring Venus with the mamintro team. The days of good weather are super pleasant.
I have also discovered a passion for clouds. We see some magnificent ones here. There are a lot of lenticulars, and other impressive shapes.
I still admire the views of the ocean, the colors, and the animals that come to visit us. There are many elephant seals onthe hold.
Of course, the fur seals are still here; we see the pups growing up little by little.
The trips between the base and Pointe Bénédicte are sometimes made by tractor, to transport heavy equipment, such as argon bottles needed for the instruments. I have learnt to drive the tractor, so Yaël and I can organize ourselves as we want for these logistics.
The tractor is also used for restocking the Antonelli hut.
Finally, for special events such as May 8, June 18 and July 14, our military and district chief organize the official ceremonies.
