First days on board the Marion Dufresne

Dernière mise à jour : 15 nov. 2020

When the sea is calm, life on board the ship is very pleasant. I spend my time on the deck taking in the fresh air and scanning the horizon for marine animals.

The ornithologists on the mission spend their days counting the different species and they teach us many things, such as how to recognize the different birds that pass.

We see many of these white-chinned petrels.

We are able to visit the control room and talk to the crew members. I was able to speak to a sailor who was in charge of transcribing the coordinates of the boat on a paper map.

Here are some pictures of the helicopter, when it landed on the Marion, and during the helicopter training on the second day.

One of the best spots on the boat is the DZ, the area reserved for the helicopter.

For the moment, the helicopter is in the garage, so we can spend time here sunbathing, watching the sea and be sheltered from the wind.

The days go by like beautiful sunsets ...
