On Tuesday, October 27th, we all had our final covid test after 14 days of quarantine. It’s our second test since we arrived at La Réunion. These results have a huge impact on our trip. If one of us were to be positive, he or she would have to stay quarantined alone here at la Réunion for one month until the next boat leaves. If the person’s trip was for less than a year, or if they remained covid positive for longer than three weeks, he or she would have to cancel the trip and go home.
So, we are all VERY relieved ! For the very first time, we can be 100% sure and say : WE ARE LEAVING !
I’m now making the most of my last days at the hotel. The boat will leave on Thursday, 29th October in the late afternoon.
The quarantine is going well. I’m enjoying having time to myself, enjoying the sunshine as I sit on my terrace. I eat well, sleep well, and I don’t even have time to be bored. I read, play some piano (yes I put it in my suitcase!), I do some sport, I photograph little creatures that come onto my terrace, I talk to my neighbours from far when it’s time to get our meals...and then it’s the end of the day already.
Here’s what our meals look like :
From my terrace, I can see very pretty birds and even some cool-looking reptiles. They were nice enough to let me take a lot of pictures of them. That kept me busy too.
A red-whiskered bulbul came to check out what I’m up to.
An Agama taking in the sun.
A Reunion Island day gecko, enjoying the sun too.
Tomorrow, the boat leaves for a 3 week journey until we reach Amsterdam Island.
On the way, we will be dropping off the others on Crozet Island and Kerguelen.
Can’t wait !!
